The reinforcement plates for the rear shock mounts of the BMW E36 and E46 serve to structurally reinforce the rear shock towers, which are exposed to high loads during spirited driving, track days, or drifting. Especially with stiffer suspension setups or high-performance configurations, the factory mount can deform, fatigue, or even crack.
